Girl is inside of her room and making up her jeans and shirt to be effortless at work. The family that gets her is her friend who lives with her and knew her when she was.

Person is inside their car driving responsibly in traffic wishing they had a passenger so they could go faster. The family that gets them is their dog and polycule that they love.

Dude is flexing at the gym in the mirror, gloating a bit at the weaker men he sees. The family that gets him is the people he works with, for they own that gym, and they own the vision too.

The family that gets me are the distant friends I keep who are queer and friendly, or friendly to queer. They are the random people I talk to that hear me when I say what the experience is for girls like me and have audacious brains like me and neurodiverse their way through the world like me too.

The family that gets you for many of us is not the family that we were born to. For some it is, and lucky for them, but the family that gets you is better for you.
